Most high School students test out in the 40 to 50 percent test scores, My soon tested out at 78 %. You know there are times when I get so ticked at him for not having some common sense ,not listening to what I tell him, Not doing what he's told , etc, etc, etc, .

TheStockAdvisors.com - Boomers, dollars and debt Best of the Best: Today's Top Investment Ideas Boomers, dollars and debt Digg It! Thursday, 25 January 2007 Mary Anne and Pamela Aden have long been among the most respected advisors in the resource sector and in the latest issue of The Aden Forecast. Here, they offer their update on the precious metals market as well as some favored investment vehicles. In addition, the Adens share some thought-provoking commentary regarding government debt, the dollar and baby boomers from David Gallard of Casey Research, also a long standing expert in this sector. âWe often discuss the unprecedented U.S. debt load and what it means for the economy, gold, the dollar and so on. But we rarely discuss the baby boomers and how this will affect the future, which is also one of the main reasons why we believe gold will continue to rise for years to come. In the excerpts that follow, David Gallard explains whyâ¦âSeventy eight million is the number of baby boomers who are in or approaching retirement. Thatâs the biggest demographic bulge in U.S. history, fully 26% of the population. And many of those 78 million are in a jam. As they approach retirement, they are still carrying historic levels of debt and, on average, have woefully inadequate net worth â and much of that based on shaky housing prices.âIn fact, 25% of the retiring boomers are facing retirement with a net worth of less than 0,000. You donât need to be an accountant to see that they wonât get very far on so little. Meanwhile, U.S. government debt now tops trillion, before taking into account its unfunded obligations for Social Security and Medicare â debts that the retiring boomers will soon have their hands out to collect. âAfter adding in Social Security, Medicare and all the governmentâs other pay-later obligations, the current debt actually comes in at over 0 trillionâan amount so large, not one person in a million has a real sense of it. So letâs try to put that number into perspective. âA trillion is 1000 X 1000 X 1000 X 1000, or a million millions. President Reagan, himself a big spender, accurately pointed out that a stack of ,000 bills four inches high makes you a millionaire, and that a trillion dollars would be a stack 67 miles high! The U.S. government owes 60 of those sky-piercing stacks of ,000 bills.âItâs a lot of money. And itâs not just any kind of money. Amazingly, this unbacked currency of a bankrupt government is still the reserve currency of virtually every nation in the world today. But not, we think, for much longer. âTo service its debt and keep the game going, the U.S. government must sell on the order of .5 billion per day in new Treasury bills, much of it to foreigners already sitting on something like trillion of U.S. paper.Recognizing that the U.S. has little capacity to rein in its profligate spending and has neither the intent nor the ability to actually pay off its 0 trillion debt in money worth anywhere near what itâs worth today, foreigners are increasingly leery about accumulating more greenbacks. âSo what are nervous bureaucrats to do? The answer is to depreciate the currency â and as quietly as possible. That allows the government to meet its obligations, but with ever more worthless dollars. Itâs their only way to buy time.âIn other words, the total amount of money in the system â what we âprintâ â is whatever the government finds convenient from one day to the next. Thatâs a way of saying that the U.S. government is planning to paper over all its many obligations and accelerate a trend that has been in motion since the creation of the Federal Reserve in 1913.âWhile no one can say with certainty how this will play out, there is one truth you can take to the bank. Throughout all of human history, gold has always held its value as a monetary instrument. That sort of shock-proof durability cannot be claimed by any paper currency, certainly not by the dollar, which has lost 70% of its value since abandoning the gold standard in 1971.

-ne I recently visited the website of Nancy Appleton, Ph.D., at http://www.nancyappleton.com and I read with interest her list of 146 Reasons Why Sugar is Ruining Your Health. It was so interesting that I asked her if she would be so kind as to allow me to post the list here for the benefit of my few family, friends, and Internet-connected folks who stop by here from time to time - and she gladly consented. Nancy is the author of a book called Lick the Sugar Habit, and others, and has done a wonderful job of compiling this list and providing detailed references for each assertion.I have been wondering for a long while why there is so much sugar everywhere in everything I (used to) eat and drink. I am not just concerned with raw sugar, or treats like powdered sugar and chocolate covered donuts anymore - but with many other things as well.White cane sugar (we all know from the little sugar packets, sugar cubes, sugar used for baking, or for sprinkling on cereal) is what immediately comes to mind, and it's many cousins. There are sugars everywhere in our diets today in measures that grossly exceed what a person would eat at any time in the past. Especially with the onslaught of problems such as diabetes (Type I & II), and other problems that might be a result of excessive consumption of sugar-laden products. Please take a moment and examine this list and see for yourself some of the potential problems sugar might cause you (especially ingesting excessive quantities as we do in America every day).------------------------------------------------146 Reasons Why Sugar Is Ruining Your HealthBy Nancy Appleton, Ph.D.Author of LICK THE SUGAR HABIT and LICK THE SUGAR HABIT SUGAR COUNTER.www.nancyappleton.com1. Sugar can cause hyperactivity, anxiety, difficulty concentrating, and crankiness in children.4. Sugar causes a loss of tissue elasticity and function, the more sugar you eat the more elasticity and function you loose.7. Sugar can cause a rapid rise of adrenaline levels in children.18. Sugar can cause premature aging.20. Sugar can cause changes frequently found in person with gastric or duodenal ulcers.25. Sugar can cause a decrease in insulin sensitivity.39. Sugar can cause drowsiness and decreased activity in children.44. Sugar can cause a permanent altering the way the proteins act in the body.62. Sugar can adversely affect school children's grades and cause learning disorders..74. Sugar can cause an increase in delta, alpha, and theta brain waves.75. Sugar can increase the insulin responses in humans consuming high-sugar diets compared to low sugar diets.81 High refined sugar diet reduces learning capacity.82. Sugar can cause less effective functioning of two blood proteins, albumin, and lipoproteins, which may reduce the body’s ability to handle fat and cholesterol.83. Sugar can cause platelet adhesiveness.85. Diets high in sugar can cause free radicals and oxidative stress.90. High sugar intake can cause epileptic seizures.115. Sugar can cause low birth weight babies.124. Sugar can cause brain decay in prediabetic and diabetic women.137. Sugar can cause metabolic syndrome.139. Sugar can cause cancer of the rectum.144. Sugar can cause renal (kidney) cell carcinoma.146. Sugar can cause liver tumors.Sources:Nancy has numerous sources for these assertions (from medical studies, and other similar publications).

Stricken by Knitting: License Plate Nerd
The work, to begin this year, is being financed by the city and by the Union Square Partnership, the local business improvement district, which says it has committed million to million. But some officials and community groups are split over a key element of the plan: the Parks Department’s proposal to put a seasonal sit-down restaurant inside the pavilion, replacing a restaurant that sits in front of it. But Scott Stringer, the Manhattan borough president, opposes it, and Community Board 5 has asked the Parks Department to also consider proposals by nonprofit groups that want to use the pavilion. To make matters stickier, the Union Square Partnership has told elected officials and restaurant foes that million of its contribution comes from an anonymous donor, who has made his gift contingent on the establishment of a restaurant in the pavilion.A partnership spokesman would not confirm the conditions of the donation, but Jennifer Falk, the partnership’s executive director, said in a statement, “All of the private donor funding raised to date is contingent upon the plan going forward as structured.”Adrian Benepe, the parks commissioner, defended the restaurant proposal, saying its purpose was to improve the park, not to make money.“Cafes enliven parks, and they give you a way to eat al fresco while you’re not choking on exhaust,”

Enforcing speed limits is a mix of pure science and gut instinct. The engineers who create the speed limits use a similar blend of facts and feelings when deciding how fast drivers can — “If the speed limits are set correctly, people should feel comfortable.”State and federal limits establish a framework, but the DOT divisions set the limits for rural, state and U.S. roadways, Camp said.Sixty-five miles per hour is the fastest speed allowed for non-interstate highways on rural four-lane roads, such as U.S. 431 north of Anniston. Limits are lowered based on traffic volume, school zones, median width, pedestrian traffic and other factors, Camp said. Things like curves, zoning and deer crossings don’t usually affect the speed limits on highways, Camp said. Yellow caution signs warn of curves, not speed limits, he said.Entrances to businesses or residences along the major arteries are not necessarily factored into the formula either, Camp said.Continue the story

NO REST FOR THE AWAKE - MINAGAHET CHAMORRO: How Much Chamorro Suffering is Worth a Fake Vote?
The figure was slightly lower than the 80% recorded in a similar poll conducted in April 2005, the daily said.At the same time, 88% of those claiming to be patriots said Japanese must consider their country's militaristic past and brutal colonial rule in Asia, the Asahi said. The results reflect public concerns about Japanese friction with China and South Korea over their shared history, the Asahi said.Japan's relations with its Asian neighbors have often been poor because of Tokyo's lack of contrition for its aggression and harsh colonial rule in the first half of the 20th century.Repeated visits by former prime minister Junichiro Koizumi to the Yasukuni Shrine that honors war criminals from World War II have further strained those ties. The Shinzo Abe government has pursued a policy agenda aimed at bolstering Japan's international military role, building up national pride and distancing the country from its war guilt, leading some critics to question whether Japan's postwar pacifist stance is under threat. However, Japan's relations with China and South Korea have improved after Abe took power in September last year.

-ne I know that I was supposed to start with my Dispatches From Guam poems, but these news pieces demanded to be commented on since they are truly disgusting. For those of you who don't know, Guam recently won some voting rights. This vote must constantly be qualified as symbolic not because of the incredible potency it holds, the bold and emotional symbolic power of the vote in binding us together stronger as a unified nation, but rather because this vote means nothing except as empty symbolism, or a crass and meaningless means of covering over the continuing inequitable and colonial relationship between Guam and the United States. Why am I saying such terrible things, when at last Chamorros and others on Guam are finally getting the rights we have pined for and dreamed about for more than a century? Because, you don't even have to read the articles closely to see the truth, its stated very openly that these votes mean nothing, except fooling us into thinking that our relationship to the United States is any different than it was before. The delegate calls it a symbolic vote because the five delegates from the territories will only be allowed to vote on floor amendments and not on the final approval of bills. In the case of a close vote the delegates from the territories will be removed from the committee and the committee will vote again without the territories votes. So basically we move from not having a vote, to having a vote that doesn't count.Nothing much has changed, yet this is for some reason being represented in the news media on Guam as a victory, an exciting shift. From enduring the Japanese occupation to the seven soldiers who have died since 2003 while in the line of duty serving their country, Congressman Madeleine Bordallo spoke with passion and purpose on the House floor to convince her colleagues to vote in favor of House Resolution 78.If you love the United States, and want to be one with it, and believe that Chamorros have been historically very patriotic and suffered for the United States, then let me ask you a simple question: Is the pain of World War II, the loss of thousands of Chamorro lives in American wars, and the loss of so much land, language, culture and history worth a fake vote? Why is all of this pain and patriotism not worth incorporation, or even a real vote in Congress, and how much more pain and patriotism will it take? And if you think its just a matter of time before that happens, then you truly don't know anything about the United States military and even less about the history of the United States.******************Bordallo will tell Guam's story on Capitol Hillby Clynt Ridgell, KUAM NewsFriday, January 26, 2007Pain and patriotism are two things the people of Guam know all too well. I have said all along that being part in the voting process, its a step forward it opens the door and hopefully someday we will be able to have a full vote in Congress," she said. The delegate calls this a symbolic vote because the five delegates from the territories will only be allowed to vote on floor amendments and not on the final approval of bills.****************Bordallo looks forward to new voting authorityby Clynt Ridgell, KUAM NewsThursday, January 25, 2007While most of us were asleep last night, an ocean away in the nations capitol the House of Representatives approved an amendment to their rules, effectively giving Guam and other United States territories a stronger voice in Congress. Delegates like Congresswoman Madeleine Bordallo will now have the chance to more fully participate in the legislative process on the House floor and will be able to offer and vote in favor or against amendments to legislation considered while discussing bills in the Committee.Bordallo commented that, Delegates will once again be able to participate in a more active way in the Committee of the Whole and the amendment process that occurs on major legislation, adding, We will have a symbolic vote and we will be able to express the voices of our constituents. In the case of a close vote the delegates from the territories will be removed from the committee and the committee will vote again without the territories votes.Bordallo says she looks forward to using her voting card in the next Committee debate on future legislation.

-ne Lectionary Readings for Sunday, December 30, 2007First Sunday after Christmas DayIsaiah 63:7-9 with Psalm 148Hebrews 2:10-18Matthew 2:13-23Life has a language. And scripture has a word for us.In our church, the Christmas tree is still bejeweled with small white lights reminding me of the stars that somehow decided to rest in the fragrant boughs of a pine tree. It becomes clear that there are indeed systems from which we must flee, there are safe havens we must find, there are times in our lives, in Mary's life, in Joseph's life, in Jesus' life, in which the powers of death seem to hold the upper hand. The peace that blessed us appears to be in short supply which the circumstances of power present themselves: opposition must be eliminated, Herod orders and, as I write these words, it happened in Pakistan too in yet another assassination. We wonder, as we look at the still present Christmas trees in our churches just how far its symbolic power will reach, and how long its promise of new life will last. Once again we find ourselves threading the needle between the ideal and the real, thankful for the birth of a baby that caused such commotion and grimly aware of the families whose parents did not receive a warning that they too must flee to Egypt if their children were to survive.Read the story for its thin line of life, knowing that deep and broad as our faith may we nevertheless walk a thin line as we travel through an all-too torn and troubled world. Read it thankful for its reality and grateful that life found a way.Word by word, slowly, read it.Matthew 2:13-23Now after they had left, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and said, ‘Get up, take the child and his mother, and flee to Egypt, and remain there until I tell you; Then was fulfilled what had been spoken through the prophet Jeremiah:'A voice was heard in Ramah, wailing and loud lamentation,Rachel weeping for her children;she refused to be consoled, because they are no more.'When Herod died, an angel of the Lord suddenly appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt and said, ‘Get up, take the child and his mother, and go to the land of Israel, for those who were seeking the child’s life are dead.’
